What is the Acervo Rotativo?

The Acervo Rotativo is a collection of contemporary art that aims to collect works by living artists in a format up to 5 x 5 cm. Our mission is to promote exchanges and knowledge and expand the reach of contemporary art in an agile and efficient way. The Acervo Rotativo was created and is managed by Natacha Janus (producer) and Laerte Ramos (artist & curator).

What does Acervo Rotativo mean?

Acervo Rotativo means "Rotating Collection" in portuguese [ language spoken in Brazil].

Why 5 x 5 cm?

We chose this format because it is a scale little explored by artists. This dimension brings a challenge and at the same time new reflections to the invited artists. In this format, we also understand that all artists are equivalent.

Are the works in this collection for sale?

No, but we have in the [ Buy Art ] section of this website a selection of special works by some artists that are part of this collection and that have formats other than 5x5 cm. These sales are directed 50% to help maintain this collection and 50% to the artists.

How many artists and how many works does this art collection have?

By 2024 this art collection totaled 412 artists. We also have more than 929 works in this scale and we believe we are one of the largest collections of contemporary art in this format in the world.

I'm an artist and I would like to be part of this collection.

By invitation only. In some cases, recommendations from artists who are already part of this art collection. We make hundreds of visits to artists' studios to be genuine in a broad connection with the art of our time.

How a partnership with a Museum or Cultural Institution works?

The "Acervo Rotativo" is open for future partnerships with museums and cultural institutions. We ask that you contact us by email. We study together the most efficient and least costly way for both parties. On the other hand, we also contact museums and cultural institutions that interest us and seek funding to help maintain the collection and regular exhibitions.

Would you like to finance this project?

If you are interested in financing this project, or an exhibition, we ask that you contact us by email so we can adjust values and cultural compensation. We have a session on this website selling works of art by some artists who participate in this collection, but with other works available - works from this collection cannot be sold.

How does loaning a work from this collection work?

Works from this collection can be loaned with a document signed by a curator or director of a museum or cultural center. However, we need to understand the dates that do not harm the presentation of these works in exhibitions already scheduled. We also ask the interested party to provide insurance, and for this, we provide instructions when necessary.

How do the workshops work with artists?

The cultural workshops work in partnership with the museums and cultural institutions that host us. To do this, we chose among the artists that are part of this collection to propose meetings, lectures and workshops so that the public has a direct experience with the artists. All workshops are free and for all ages.

Is the collection copyrighted by the artists?

Yes, the entire collection has the correct documentation to be able to establish all types of possible partnerships. We have a donation agreement for the works, we have a letter of consent from the artists and we provide the artists with a receipt - proof that the work is part of this collection.

Who owns the Acervo Rotativo collection?

The Acervo Rotativo is managed by the production company Studium Generale. The creators are Natacha Janus (director and administrator) and Laerte Ramos (director and curator).

Does this collection have a physical space?

No. We understand that partnerships between cultural institutions and artists are a strong tool for connection. Not having roots gives us the freedom to be able to take artists and their poetics to distant places that need exchanges.

What forms of sponsorship has this art collection obtained so far?

Until now, this collection has received the following financial support:

- Instituto Adelina/Lei Rouanet - annual project
